T5 series self-hold thermal cut-outs are similar structure as auto-reset types except they are fitted with a PTC heating element. Once T5 reaches its open temp., the contacts open and the load current then passes through this internal PTC heating element. The heat thus generated stops the bimetal disc from auto-resetting and protects the appliance from over-heating. The thermal cutout will remain in an open-circuit condition until the applied power is switched off and the internal PTC is allowed to cool down. The T5 will then auto-reset and so re-make the electrical circuit.

Manually disconnecting the power supply to reset the thermostat, then re-plug the power supply.
